| History of our Chamber |
|
On September 22, 1925, a group of Kingman businessmen met at the Mohave County High School, to consider forming a Chamber of Commerce for the purpose of boosting: farming, stock raising, mining, manufacturing, climatic conditions and tourist travel, with the good intention of assisting in the growth and prosperity of Mohave County.
On November 3, 1925, at the Hight School building, the Mohave County Chamber of Commerce was formally organized with the nearly 200 members and the dues of $.50 per month. The Chamber was incorporated in 1952 while chaired by Alex Vaughn. In 1970 the name of the Chamber was chamged to the Kingman-Mohave Chamber of Commerce and in 1973 it was changed again to the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce. The Mohave County High School posed as the office of the Chamber for the first year of its existance with Judge LeRoy V. Root elected as temporary Chairman. Since then the location of the office has changed many times and today it is located in the historical Kingman Powerhouse. The Powerhouse is located at 120 West Andy Devine in downtown Kingman. The Chamber office can be found on the second floor of the Powerhouse looking over the historical Locomotive Park. |
